What’s Blooming in the Driftless: Our Seasonal Flower Guide

There’s something really special about living and farming in Wisconsin. The rolling hills and valleys are a view that you just can’t beat when the seasons start to change. Each change paints the fields with a new palette of color. When we planted our little patch of cut flowers, we quickly realized how much joy comes from simply watching what blooms when. This process became a reminder for us to celebrate each stage of the year and to be patient with what’s to come.

At Driftless Daughters Flower Co., our bouquets reflect this very flow. Starting in 2026, we’ll be offering bouquet subscriptions and a flower stand updated weekly with bouquets, so you can bring the beauty of each season home with you. Until then, we want to share a glimpse of what we will be growing and when you can expect to see these flowers shining brightest in our fields and your homes.

Spring Blooms (April - June)

Spring feels like a deep breath after a long Wisconsin winter. It’s when the ground finally softens, the air smells fresh, and the first blooms make their grand entrance. These flowers don’t last long, but maybe that’s why they feel so special. They’re a fleeting reminder that new beginnings are always around the corner.

  • Tulips — bright, cheerful and one of the first signs of life after winter

  • Peonies — lush, showy stems that add a soft glow to a room

We planted over 400 tulip bulbs this fall and look forward to seeing the different varieties come up in spring of 2026. These will be some of the first bouquets we offer at our stand and in our subscriptions this year. Tulips are a sign of spring and new beginnings and know that they will bring joy to your home. We have had peonies planted on our land for over three years and have been enjoying them in our home when they come in bountiful. Peonies are some of our favorite flowers that are out there. We made quite an investment this year and planted quite a few number of new varieties on the farm and will patiently wait to see what blooms and how our plants grow. The many varieties we planted won’t be ready for a few years, but good things are worth the wait!

Summer Blooms (July - August)

By summer, the fields are alive with energy. The Driftless hills hum with bees and butterflies, and the flowers seem to grow taller every time we turn around. These are the flowers that make bouquets feel abundant and full of joy— perfect for the height of the growing season. Our zinnias this first year were so colorful and joyful. My favorite was the peachy pink bubblegum mix that we will be bringing back next year. I may have gotten a bit overzealous in my ordering but will never complain of an overabundance of color in my back yard. We have a lot of fun varieties, including some of Floret Flower’s own hybrids that I can’t wait to see bloom.

  • Zinnias — vibrant, long-lasting flowers that bring playful color

  • Cosmos — airy and delicate, adding softness to bouquets

  • Sunflowers — the golden faces of summer, cheerful and bold

  • Snapdragons — tall spikes of pastel or jewel-toned flowers

Wait until you see the snapdragon varieties that are coming to our bouquets this year, you will not be disappointed. They are gorgeous alone or nestled in one of our bouquets, we have varieties that will bloom through the early fall. Sunflowers are a family favorite and we have been growing them in mass production on our dairy farm. Soil health is important to us, so we grow cover crops to grow nutrients back into the soil — in our mixes include different varieties of sunflowers. I must say, there is nothing more beautiful than in the fall to see sunflowers peeking out in the acres surrounding our home.

Fall Blooms (September - October)

When the air turns crips and the hills begin to glow with autumn color, the fields hold their own kind of magic. There’s a richness to fall flowers that feels grounding, like the last big celebration before winter’s quiet.

  • Dahlias — the queens of the fall garden, with endless colors and textures

  • Rudbeckia — golden petals that reflect the harvest season

  • Statice and yarrow — long lasting fillers that hold their shape beautifully

I grew dahlias this year with doubt. I’ve never been able to grow dahlias and make them work. This year they shocked me - I shocked myself! I planted 5 tubers and the amount of stems I had was bountiful. From large dinnerplate varieties to smaller bouquet fillers, the pink and purple blooms that surrounded my home were gorgeous. I went all in on dahlia tuber orders this year and look forward to them being the showstoppers in our bouquets next year. My other love? Statice. What a gorgeous filler flower that lasts forever! It’s the gift that keeps on giving, after you enjoy them in a vase, hang them to dry and it’s something you can enjoy for a long time.

Looking Ahead to 2026

Every season tells its own story, and we can’t wait to share those stories with you through our flowers. Starting in 2026, we’ll be offering bouquet subscriptions — a simple way to bring a little joy and color into your home throughout the growing season. We’ll also have a flower stand where you can stop by, see what’s fresh, and pick out a bundle that speaks to you.

From cheerful sunflowers and playful zinnias to delicate costmos and elegant dahlias, each bouquet will be filled with blooms that reflect the heart of our farm and the beauty of this land we call home. Until then, we’ll keep sharing updates from the fields, little glimpses of what’s growing, and the lessons we’re learning as we prepare for our first full bouquet season. Thank you for following along with us— we’re so excited for the blooms ahead.

Sign up for our email list to be the first to know when bouquet subscriptions and flower stand pickups are ready for their debut in 2026. We’d love to share our blooms with you!

May your days be slow, your hands filled with flowers and your heart light,

Erin, Finnley and Mila — the Driftless Daughters
